A source within the Bakery at wegmans says the company has allegedly asked to open the contact and asked for concession under threat of possible layoffs. The company that tells people that have never had a layoff. After further investigation we have learned that if a company lays off less than 50 employees that it doesn't have to report it. We here at Majority Rules wonder how many times they have laid off less than 50 people in the history of the company? We will keep you posted as more details become available.

Boy I'll bet this will be real bad for Wegmans. Another black eye to go along with the empty shelves and no product choices. Customers are getting fed up and that is bad for all of us in distribution.

These rumors are true. I would be considered a reliable source. The company announced Thursday August 31st that because BCTGM local 116 refused to accept Wegmans "last and final offer" regarding Wegmans terms and conditions relating to the shutdown of an area of the central bakeshop called the Moline line. This area encompasses 3 lines and 24 full time employees. According to Wegmans, effective September 31st, 2014 the Moline line will be shut down and most of its workers will be put into general population throughout the bakeshop. The company states that because of the Unions refusal to accept their final offer, they are now forced to lay off 24 full-time employees with the least sonority. If this proves to be true; this would be Wegmans first publicly acknowledged layoff. Let's hope this is all works itself out amicably because surely no one wants to see anyone lose their job. Also what a black eye this would give a company like Wegmans that looks to celebrate its 100th birthday in 2016.

Did Trish tell you that? Is Tool an officer in the baker's union too? Is that why there are layoffs? We know Tool wants to be considered a good source. Looks like the bakers are getting more representation than warehouse and driving is.
